A Path Forward - A Statement about COVID-19

We have watched along with the rest of the world as Cornavirus and COVID-19 have swept across the globe. Recovery Allies wishes everyone a safe, peaceful retreat as we hunker down and avoid public spaces as much as possible.

What We Are Doing

Recovery Allies is open and accepting new clients. In light of this public health crisis, we have instituted preventative measures to preserve the health of our clients, our staff, and the public at large. We are committed to administering services, limiting ours and our clients’ risk of exposure, and providing resources for those in need of virtual assistance.

Online Resources

We are moving client meetings to virtual spaces whenever possible. Our mentors are available to meet by ZOOM conference call and many of our current clients have chosen to engage this way.

Those seeking the support of Alcoholics Anonymous can find virtual meetings at http://aa-intergroup.org/directory.php.

Education

We are closely monitoring all developments with regard to COVID-19. Our staff are trained to recognize symptoms of potential infection, administer first aid, if necessary, and prevent transmission. As new preventative information is made available by The World Health Organization and The Center for Disease Control, we adapt our methods accordingly.

Screening

New clients and staff are screened for potential risk factors relating to COVID-19 prior to administration of services or commencement of work. These risk factors include:

  • International or domestic travel to places with sustained community transmission within the last 14 days. Read more at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.

  • Signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, and sore throat.

  • In the last 14 days, has had contact with someone with or under investigation for COVID-19, or are sick with respiratory illness.

  • Residents of communities where community-based spread of COVID-19 is happening.

CDC-Recommended Prevention Strategies

  • 1. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.  Visibly dirty hands should be washed with soap and water.

  • 2. Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • 3. Stay at home when you are sick, except to get medical care

  • 4. Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue

  • 5. Clean frequently-touched surfaces following manufacturer’s instructions
